This chapter poses the question, “What is wrong with gentrification?” It explores five harms that are associated with gentrification: residential displacement; exclusion; transformation of public and commercial space; polarization; and homogenization. The strongest normative argument against gentrification, the chapter argues, is based upon the wrong of displacement. Drawing on luck gentrification: renovate and improve (especially a house or district) so that it conforms to middle-class taste; the buying and renovation of houses and stores in deteriorated urban neighborhoods by upper- or middle-income families or individuals, thus improving property values but often displacing low-income families andsmall businesses. “gentrification [is] complex and multifaceted, being simultaneously a physical, economic, social and cultural process” (Hamnett, 1984, p.284). The critical discussion on gentrification intensified again in the 1990s, continuing to the present day. Roosevelt ordered the incarceration and forced relocation of 110,000 to 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry who lived on the Pacific coast. Gentrification in Warsaw Gentrification is a process of changing the character of a neighborhood through the influx of more affluent residents and businesses.

This is Thursday at its best. Geoff Rickley’s psych dissertation provides lessons on pain, loss, gentrification and so many other things that I never had to consider in my podunk, vanilla town. Musically the ensemble compliment the whole brutal art of Rickley’s poetry with screeching riffs, shotgun drumming and a bloodbath of basslines.
